Small Bathroom Remodeling
Simple Tips for Small Bathroom Remodeling
It's a fact that new decor can be fun and exciting, but there are some challenges that can leave almost anyone looking for small bathroom remodeling answers. When comes time to do a DIY bath project, you have to think about more than just how the room is going to look when you are done.
We have found that as soon as you start replacing some things in the house you have to keep going because the new things make other pieces look worn and old. It seems to be an unending cycle. But for us it beat the alternative of renting. We love the equity that we are building up in our home.
We have done an extensive amount of what I call face lifting in the rooms of our home. Our home is over a hundred years old and has had several stages of remodeling through the years. When we moved in the cabinets in the kitchen area as well as the woodwork were stained a dark walnut color.
Over the first year of being in the house we stripped the wallpaper, painted the cabinets in the kitchen as well as the woodwork and wainscoting in the dining area.
We re-painted the living room walls and the guest rooms and we then did the entire loft, stripping the paper, preparing and painting the paneling and replacing the dark carpets.
The house looked great and we were tired of the entire process. We did not have enough energy to complete the small bathroom remodeling. This bathroom is located off the kitchen and is the bath that is used by guests.
It is the only room in the house that still has wallpaper and the old light fixtures. It needs updating but the thought of the small bathroom remodeling is too overwhelming for us to begin.
Remodel with accessories too
We know that when we do begin with the small bathroom remodeling we will need to remove the existing vanity as well as the lighting. Taking the wall paper off is going to be a challenge because in a small test area I tried peeling it back to see what type of walls are in the bath.
The previous owner put the wallpaper directly on the sheetrock. This means that we are going to have to have a sheet rock person come in and repair the pieces that are going to come off with the wallpaper. We know this is going to happen because that was our experience in the dining area. We know that we need to get to this smallest room in the house, we are just trying to get up the energy to do it.
Clean up and add space
Probably the most important aspect of small bathroom remodeling is finding ways to hide and store many of the things that you use every day. The last thing you want in a small bathroom is a lot of clutter, as this will make your room look even smaller than is, and will make seem rather chaotic.
Think about shelving and other ways to keep your things up and away, and out of eyesight if possible. If you can find a large, recessed medicine cabinet that matches your small bathroom remodeling ideas, that will be a huge help.
Color schemes
You also have to think about how to make your room look a bit more appealing. This means you have to use a bright color when doing your small bathroom remodeling.
You want to use colors that are bright in such a room because they draw in the light and disperse throughout the room, and the give the feeling of a slightly larger room than what you really have. You can have darker décor colors for accents, but going wh something sunny and bright like whe or yellow will give you the feel you want to have.
If you are doing extensive small bathroom remodeling, look for tubs and sinks that have a smaller size to help with the scale of the room. Bath accessories that are too large for the room not only take up your precious space, but they also make the room feel out of skew. Instead, find things made especially for smaller bathrooms to make the most of your space.
Now, it's time to get started. Get online to do some research for equipment and tools you need for your small bathroom remodeling weekend. Planning will get the job faster and your goal is more likely to be met. Have fun and enjoy your new bath!
