Remodeling a Small Bathroom

I have a friend who purchased an older home and is in the process of updating the home a little bit at a time. She asked me about some bathroom remodeling ideas, and together we came up with a great and inexpensive way to redo her bathroom. 

The Plan and Style

First we determined the style in which she wanted to remodel the entire home.  Being a split-level built in the 1970's, it is difficult to get that newer modern feel.  However, she is in love with vintage everything, so, vintage is what we decided to do in the bathroom. 

After determining style, we then assessed what worked and what didn't.  The toilet definitely had to go.  It was a sad broken down unit, so we simply replaced it with a basic toilet rather than a more expensive fixture since she had a small budget. 

A Nice Throne

The commode was out of the way, and since the bathtub was in decent condition, a standard toilet worked just fine.  The faucet fixture on the sink was already tiqued brass made by Moen and worked just fine.  A simple cleaning job and it fit right in with the vintage style. 

Finding Bathroom Tips

We then checked out the local home improvement stores for other bathroom remodeling ideas in paint colors and tile flooring, light fixtures, etc.  The counter top was a faux black marble Formica and since it blended well, we decided to keep it.  

A Simple Coat of Paint

By repainting and tiquing the vanity and replacing the old knobs with vintage, as well as replace the light fixture, we were able to pull the sink area together for very little expense.   

Bathroom Tiles and Flooring

This left a good deal of the budget available for flooring which was definitely in need of a change. Once the vintage tile had been chosen and installed, we had paint and decorator pieces left. 

Since the cost of the other changes had been small, we were able to go with some very nice vintage style towel racks, matching vanity accessories and a fabric shower curtain to add a feeling of elegance and luxury.  She also had enough money left over to purchase some new hand and bath towels.
